"Advertising Spending Projections 2011" Luncheon Seminar
23 February 2011
2011 is viewed with very mixed sentiments across industries. Some are complacent with the booming free mainland travellers. Some are cautious towards the soaring retail prices and media rates. Some are skeptical about the growing popularity of the digital media. The Hong Kong Advertisers Association (HK2A) and The Nielsen Company were happy to share with members and guests quality analyses on the outlook for 2011 and insights into all these issues at the AdSpend Projections 2011 Result Presentation Luncheon held at JW Marriott Hong Kong Hotel.
To complement the 50th anniversary of HK2A and kick off the luncheon, Mr Vincent Cheung of Canon Hongkong Co Ltd had specially tailored a presentation on "50 Years of Advertising in Hong Kong", which won rapturous applause from the audience. Ms Celia Fan of The Nielsen Company then pinpointed the challenges that marketers and advertisers would be facing during the succeeding presentation, which also registered animated feedback from the floor. The outlook for both the economy and advertising industry is optimistic, though advertisers would still press for cost effective and creative solutions from agencies given the expected rise in media cost.
As the survey predicted that social media and mobile apps would be the big story of 2011, a panel discussion entitled "New Thinking · New Media" was held to explore the impact of these tools. Mr Vincent Cheung of Canon Hongkong Co Ltd, Mr Kenneth Wong of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Desmond So of JWT HK and Mr Terence Tung of One Media Group were invited to share their experience and exchange ideas with the audience. Our heartiest thanks to all the panelists.
Lastly, we would like to thank The Nielsen Company for conducting the survey and the sponsors for their generous support: Buspak Advertising (Hong Kong) Ltd, Maxus, POAD Group Limited, 3HK, nowTV, Adsfactor, ESD Services Limited, Focus Media Hong Kong, Hachette Filipacchi HK Limited, Hong Kong Cable Enterprises Limited, Hong Kong Economic Times, JCDecaux Cityscape, JCDecaux Transport, Microsoft Hong Kong Limited, Ming Pao Newspapers Limited, New Media Group Holdings Limited, One Media Group, Pixel Media, RoadShow Media Limited, South China Morning Post, Television Broadcasts Limited and Yahoo! Hong Kong Limited.

Mr Vincent Cheung walked the audience through "50 Years
of Advertising in Hong Kong".

"There is a call for the agencies to provide integrated
solutions to advertisers," remarked Ms Celia Fan during the
finding presentation.

HK2A Social Media Mini Series II : What¡¦s Hot & Happening in Social Media
18 January 2011
Riding on the success of the first workshop of the Social Media Mini Series, the second workshop resumed the format of dinner workshop and was held at the Metropol Restaurant on January 18. Three heavy weight personalities from the world of new media brought with them successful cases engineered by Facebook, Groupon and Jiepang.
Ms Jayne Leung, Director, North Asia of Facebook, Mr Danny Yeung, CEO of Groupon Hong Kong and Mr David Liu, CEO of Jiepang Hong Kong not only walked the audience through the concept of "paid, owned and earned" in social media, but how to engage customers through group buying and location-based social media. Mr Danny Yeung of Groupon explained that credibility and
user-friendliness was key to any website.
